The DNA of This House

Our Culture

Everything we believe, carry, and expect — one journey, six chapters.

01

Our Vision

To lead people into the throne room of Jesus, releasing miracles, healing and the prophetic in every service.

02

Our Core Values

Our core values mirror the core values of our church. Here’s how we express them as a team.

01

BIG Church, BIG Picture

As a team, we always keep worship culture fully aligned with Awaken Church culture. We don’t allow worship culture to supersede Awaken Church culture, nor do we facilitate a culture that steps out from under the umbrella of the church and our Biblical foundation.

02

Dependent on Waters Above

As a team member and a believer, our personal devotion is the source of our power, wisdom, and strength. We are individually responsible for our connection with God. We turn up on a Sunday to soak as well as to serve, and we serve from the overflow of the quiet time that we create uniquely for ourselves.

03

Discipleship & Development

Without discipleship there is no development, and without development there is no discipleship. As a team, we are committed to actively positioning ourselves to have leaders speak into our musical development and personal walk.

04

Known, Loved, Wanted, Needed

We build family that is engaged in the worship team, serving together out of the overflow of a deep connection to God and the Awaken community. We know and love our teammates for who they are before we want and need the talents they possess for the platform. We don’t fill holes on the worship team or promote quickly based on talent.

05

Pray Until Something Happens

We are a faith church. We speak the Word of God, and signs and wonders follow us. We pray from a place of authority and not from wishful thinking. Like Cornelius, we live a lifestyle of consecration.

06

Culture of Honor

It was the lack of honor that closed the floodgates of Jesus in His own city. We honor not just our earthly fathers and mothers but all those in leadership over our lives. We honor their position and their sacrifice so that it goes well for us.

07

Healing, Fruitfulness, Prosperity

There are three “supernatural wells” that our church is known for that flow to bring people from sickness to healing, from barrenness to fruitfulness, and from poverty to prosperity.

03

Our Confession

The declaration we make together as a team.

God, I come into agreement that You have made me a worshipping warrior and I step into that authority! As we sing Your praise, we declare that every note, every hit, every musical detail is a powerful weapon that silences the enemy and calls Heaven to earth! We expect miracles, healing and breakthrough to take place as we worship on and off the platform! In Jesus’ Mighty Name, Amen!

04

Team Qualifications

What it takes to serve on this team.

01

Committed Member of Awaken Church

It is important that every team member has a strong commitment to the leadership and people of our church. To be effective, we must be united as a team and pursuing the same vision as our lead Pastors Jurgen and Leanne.

02

Spiritual Maturity

Anyone who is in a position to serve in high visibility is in a position of influence — our congregation will automatically see those on the stage as leaders. Our goal is to honor the platform on which we serve by honoring the Lord and the leaders who have built it, creating an intimate atmosphere to lead our church into worship.

03

Musical and Technical Competency

The privilege to lead our church into worship is not a casual hobby, but a focused and intentional craft. Musicians and singers need to be proficient and practiced, with a level of competency that will enhance atmosphere onstage. All teammates must be prepared to develop, extend and fine-tune their gifts.

04

Availability

To grow in unity and skill as a team, it is of the utmost importance we meet together to be inspired, to learn and to practice. Attending Team Nights, pre-service rehearsals, Develop Nights, and various other team events are a part of our team culture. It is important to understand the time commitment necessary to not only hone a craft, but to build community.

05

Support of Family

It is important that your immediate family is aware of the time commitments necessary, and that they are excited and supportive of your ministry efforts, as they are just as much a part of our family as you are.

06

Integrate With the Team

Great technical talent is highly valued, however flexibility within your craft is just as crucial. The ability to blend and flow with the team is of the greatest value, in regards to skill as well as service flow, song selections, and various other potential variables.

07

Living By Biblical Principles and Standards

To serve on an elevated platform is an honor and a responsibility to be stewarded seriously, and also protected mindfully. Some examples of Biblical standards we uphold:

  • A deep connection with Jesus, through prayer and study of His Word
  • Rooted, healthy relationships within Awaken Church and on the worship team
  • Regular attendance to Awaken Church services (not only when serving)
  • Respect and honor of processes and systems, teammates and leaders
  • Alignment with the vision and culture of our worship team, Awaken Church and our lead pastors
  • Social media presence that emphasizes a spirit of joy, leadership and authenticity, with posts drawing viewers closer to Jesus, not further away
  • No gossip or slander; no divisive behavior
  • No drug or alcohol abuse
  • No sexual misconduct (including but not limited to premarital or unBiblical sexual activity, pornography, living with a significant other, sexual harassment, etc.)
05

Team Expectations

What serving asks of us.

01

Attending Team Events

We use Master Classes, Develop Nights, Team Hangouts and more to develop team spirit and camaraderie, receive inspirational input from our leaders and each other, catch the vision of what God wants to do in Awaken Church, strengthen our crafts together, worship together as a team, and deepen our connection to God and our confidence in the gifts He’s given us. Check the calendar for what’s next.

02

Spiritually Prepared to Minister

It is important that we know our role and understand its importance in the life of the church. It is He who moves people’s hearts and draws them to Himself. We must be intentionally open to His Spirit to lead and move through us. We need to come ready not only to sing, play and serve, but also worship the King and minister to His people — leading people by our example both on and off the stage.

03

Committed to Sacrifice

Serving on our team is a large commitment — on and off the platform! We are the first to arrive (with the exception of Production), as we soundcheck and prepare to engage in the front lines of battle for our Sunday and Wednesday services. There is also practice time during the week, and occasionally extra opportunities (Christmas, Easter, Conferences, etc.). We recognize the sacrifice of time as we serve, and the fruit it brings to our Awaken family.

04

Committed to Excellence

Excellence honors God and inspires people. To achieve musical and technical excellence we need to work at our instrumental, vocal or technical ability to become the very best we can be — individual practice, playing with the team, and individual lessons. The team will only be as proficient as the individuals it is composed of.

05

Committed to Growing Spiritually

The Bible is clear about the necessity for us to grow in our understanding of God and our relationship with Him — especially for those of us in a leadership ministry. We need to be continually ‘topping up’, refreshing our relationship and growing in God. You can’t give out what you haven’t put in.

06

Committed to Flowing with the Team

We must not be simply a collection of talented individuals, but a team with a single purpose. Our skills need to be used to enhance the team as a whole. The appropriateness of playing volume, musical style, choice of sounds — all affect the ability to flow. Remember, the greatest ability of any musician or singer is listening.
